Slackware 10.0 Kernel 2.6.10 and Lucent Modem Problem

Installed Slackware 10.0 to replace Fedora 2. Bingo Via 82xxxx AC97 chip works now . Problem though is I upgraded to the 2.6.10 Kernel, couple loading errors but everything works once at the login. I have a Actiontec winmodem with a Lucent/Agere Mars Chipset that worked fine under the 2.4 Kernels. Have downloaded the ltmodem-2.6-alk-6 source code, compiled the driver and all was fine. However, when I load the module driver, the 2.6.10 kernel forgets ppp, pppd, ipv4, etc (all these are installed into the kernel as a monolithic kernel, only modules are the compiled ltmodem drivers.) Anyone give advice here or point me to where I can find drivers for the modem under 2.6 kernel that actually stinking work?

All I can say

If you are using the generic kernel from testing, it's a good idea to edit your /etc/rc.d/rc.rc.modules-2.6.10 file. There may be something in there that you need that's commented out.

Or, the very best option is to locate one of those $20 external modems that are out there. That's what I finally did. I've since moved to broadband, but having an external modem is well worth the price if broadband is not available to you.
