Good job making Slackware users look good, guys! In fact this whole thread is a pretty pathetic example of the common attitude around here... and I say this as a long-time usre of Slackware to the exclusion of all other distros.
Some guy publishes some benchmarks about a the performance of distros and it's been attack, attack, attack ever since. Instead of just accepting that Slackware might not have the fastest start time (it doesn't) or performance (hey maybe it doesn't), we have to criticize the integrity of the author, anyone who uses another distro and even the idea of benchmarks themselves. I don't select my distro based on CPU cycles required to run a command but who cares if someone else wants to publish a comparison?
Love Slackware, hate the attitude here.

Right. So with your first post here at LQ in the official Slackware forum you characterize the users as exhibiting a pathetic attitude. I've used Slackware for 10 years and I have always found this forum to be an invaluable resource. I have the greatest respect for the Slackers who inhabit this forum.
I don't think there is any harm in venting a bit. If a thread really goes south we have moderators that can intervene if they wish.
Welcome to our forum.

Thanks. It's a pleasure.
There are too many misleading and misinformed reviews of Slackware out there on the 'net. Why should we tolerate them and let them escape without a scratch in this forum? Also, remember the wise words of J.R. "Bob" Dobbs in The Book of the SubGenius about people who can't take a joke.

Yeah, don't be an emotionless robot.
Sometimes cracking wise relieves tension. Humor invokes laughter which nourishes the soul.
We all spout off here and there ranting, raving, sometimes popping off nonsense, but that's what makes us human and there is the old proverb... If you don't like what someone says or have a differing opinion, God gave you a mouth... Use it, or go eat ice cream.
Everyone has a different opinion on everything.

Indeed. We are all passionate about a variety of issues and we have different hot button topics that inflame us. I thoroughly enjoy the spirited debates that occur here.

I agree. I have my opinions and idealisms, so does everyone else. In my case... I've never claimed to be all knowing or all wise. I've said and posted stuff at times that's wrong, and hey, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong so be it. Refute my claim but at least be respectful. If you have other issues with me, I have, just like anyone else, a private message and we can talk it out there. When I'm right, I'll be right, and when I'm wrong, I'll be wrong. I'm no more or less human than the chief administrator here who started this place or the newbie that just signed up 5 minutes ago. If you feel otherwise, well that's your loss.

@sinterk - Judging, not only by your judgmental negativity, but actually your assessment of what? 8 pages! of posts? as all having the same pov and character, my guess is you have jumped to a conclusion based on an emotional reaction to a few vents without ever considering to be thorough and accurate, only being concerned with how a couple posts made you feel. Maybe if you stick around here where some serious Big Boys come to play and yes, let off a little steam sometimes, you might actually learn some tolerance and maturity, not to mention careful consideration, a few of the traits that make Slackware the gem that it is.

I've been a distro-hopper in the past, it's a difficult thing for me to change, but slackware is one of the best distros out there and I keep coming back to it. It's the perfect distro for those wanting to learn more about linux. In my experience I've learned that performance is dependent on many factors and heavily depends on your hardware and the programs you have installed. While I may recommend other distros to those new to linux I highly recommend slackware to anyone looking to learn more.

i have been thinking about this since phoronix did the benchmark
it could be one of
patches to the kernel
tweeks to the kernel config (shouldn't do too much in most cases)
glibc patches (most probable)
gcc patches (unlikely)
shouldn't be that hard to check
in fact it shouldn't matter since everything goes upstream mainline eventually
(like i upgraded glibc due to ssse3 memcpy that was added, it being 20-30% faster with 1 byte unaligned copy's (and it's mainline now)(ps only helped with flash, as flash is so good it cant align its memory to at least 2 bytes))
