slackpkg mirror from current to 14.1

Hi. I did a fresh install using 14.0 64 bit because that was the disk I had. I uncommented mirror for current 64 and used slackpkg to upgrade everything. I assume I am now a clean 14.1 install. Can I change the mirror to a 14.1 version now for going forward or is current somehow beyond or different than this?

Start here --> http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:sla...:systemupgrade or, in your case, finish here. Short answer, 14.1 and current are not the same thing. I'm sure someone else can explain it better than I, but 14.1 is the latest stable release and current will become the next stable release when it's deemed ready. If you change to a 14.1 mirror, you will "downgrade" some or all of your packages.

Current is the development version of Slackware. When they think it is ready they release it as a new stable release. At that point current and stable are exactly the same thing. After that, stable release only get security patches while current gets version upgrades until it becomes the new stable release. Repeat.

These were the steps I took to go from 14.0 to 14.1. It's definitely not the recommended way, but it worked for me. Always make a backup of your data first though.

change mirror to current
slackpkg update
slackpkg update slackpkg
change mirror to 14.1
slackpkg update
slackpkg upgrade-all
slackpkg install-new
slackpkg clean-system
