I recently installed Slackware on my computer and I recently was able to get the wireless configured.
I then downloaded slackpkg and installed slackpkg.
Afterwards I ran slackpkg install-new
and slackpkg update. Afterwards , it did the updates. Afterwards I restarted my computer. When I went to startx as root, there was an error saying screen not found also a .serverauth file was missing ... What happened ? This is the second time after slackpkg update. Is there a reason for this error ? I am wondering how to get x started.
excuse me in advance if I ask some questions: it's just to have a clearer situation and help you better.

which version have you installed? 14.1? 32bit or 64bit?

slackpkg is already included in a slackware full installation: by that you mean you have done a partial installation? what have you installed and what haven't you installed?

do you mean by that that you switched to a different version of slackware? maybe from stable to current (they are different versions)?

try copy/pasting the error, post a photo or something that shows us the exact complete error you got...
also, some details on your hardware could help: post the output of
I am testing to see what the results are. I ran slackpkg update gpg, then slackpkg install-new, then slackpkg update, and last slackpkg upgrade-all. For the second I got 'No changes in ChangeLog.txt between your update and now'. Then the 3rd 'Looking for NEW packages to install. Please wait ...DONE' 'No packages match the pattern for install. Try:'
'/usr/sbin/slackpkg upgrade|reinstall'
When 'slackpkg upgrade-all'
It says
'You have a broken /var/log/packages - with two versions of the same package. The list of packages duplicated in your machine are shown below, but don't worry about this list - when you select your action, slackpkg will show a better list:

you have two slackpkgs in stalled. open a terminal as root and type pkgtool and uninstall one. Remember slackpkg is already installed with slackware you just edit the /etc/slackpkg/mirror then do a slackpkg update slackpkg upgrade-all
At the cafe where I had wireless access, I was what to run slackpkg update , etcetera. It was updating various packages for a few hours, though it wasn't finished and I eventually had to s
quit in the middle. Currently, I am at a library, trying to start at the beginning again from the command line. I can't seem to access the wireless network here, though should be , its a public network. What do I do so I can get update started again?

Can't you "just" mirror a repository once from one place, and then you'll have plenty of time (and speed) to solve your problem locally ?

Hahaha . I just suggest that you do a mirror, "anywhere" you can have a connection. I dunno where you should do it, if it was in a "cafe" well go to the cafe, it it's the library try there (you can ask at the library for an access maybe or can't you ?).
I 'm trying a different mirror, the problem is that I had been interrupted while I was slackpkg upgrade-all, and it seems to be having difficulty connecting. Currently it is 'Looking for packages to upgrade. Please wait...' . when I slackpkg upgrade-all earlier, it saw that some were upgraded, though later said something like 'unable to resolve host' .... Currently it is still in a process ...

I was talking about doing a LOCAL mirror (first resync the repo somewhere on your harddrive). This is cool even when you have a fast and constant connection, with a sporadic and unstable connection, it's even more essential.
