Slackbuilds.org logo contest?

1 Attachment(s)
Markus posted a message on the slackbuilds.org mailing list about a logo contest. I wasn't crazy about it so I adapted another version. I know all of us here appreciate the wonderful service the Slackbuilds team provides. So why not have a logo; something slackware websites can use as an icon or badge to show support and link to Slackbuilds.org?

Attached is my entry; adapted from the Slackware boot splash. I also have the original Gimp xcf for any graphics artists out there.

Who else wants to jump into the fun?

Enjoy.

I made some in C4D. One with more Slackware-like colors and one with a more "modern" approach.

Edit: Added high-res.

WOOT! You can't go wrong with Legos!

I've collected the "submissions" here: http://www.koenigcomputers.com/slacklogos/sbo_logo.html

I haven't gotten a "vote" counter button up yet. A simple PHP or javascript snippet with server side storage would be appreciated (via private messaging not posting here).

Not to good, but what the heck...Here's mine

Yes - it HAS to be the Lego bricks. Nothing more geekier ...

One note, should the '.org' be built below the 'BUILDS' to have;

Code:

SLACK
      BUILDS
                .org

I do like the 'logo' idea but users that do not know 'SLACKBUILDS.org' will not associate at first. Branding should be such to link the association with the visual.

I completely agree. I like the lego idea, but order of the bricks is confusing. With onebuck's adjustment it's pretty clear.

I haven't arranged all bricks underneath because it makes the logo larger in height, which is not a good solution for a sig, website logo etc.

But anyways, here it is in that order. ;)

Hi,
Then raise to the same level and provide a linking block for separation. Somewhat like bridge in Lego land.
Code:

SLACK      Packages
      BUILDS      .org

OR
Code:

Slackware    Packages
SLACK    BUILDS      .org

schmatzler 05-27-2012 03:26 PM

Second idea is awesome.

I will do that tomorrow. Switched off my Windows machine already and C4D doesn't run it Wine. Gnaa. Should try Blender, but...usability mess. :D

yenn 05-27-2012 04:49 PM

Or connect [BUILDS] and [.org] with little "bridge". Figure below:
Code:

SLACK
    BUILDS  .org
        ======

Although onebuck's second idea looks promising and I'm looking forward to see that logo :)

damgar 05-27-2012 05:06 PM

I like the original lego logo. I think having "slack builds" stuck with a free floating ".org" is very obvious for anyone, not to mention the ubquitous knowledge that .org is the end of the URL. Just my two cents. In any case the legos are genius :)

55020 05-27-2012 05:26 PM

Has anyone pointed out that SlackBuilds.org anagrams to "Boil Slack Drugs"? Anyone wanna do a logo on that theme? :)

sycamorex 05-27-2012 05:38 PM

I really like the quality of the blocks (and the logo as a whole), however, personally I don't think it's appropriate for anything related to slackware. It's way too fancy for slackware/slackbuilds. Where's simplicity? Where's KISS?:)

That's my opinion, anyway.

I produced a few versions myself. Nothing fancy, but that's the idea.

How about a little vignette of Bob working in the kitchen, standing at the stove, looking over his shoulder back at the POV ... I don't know.

Here it is, bridged. ;)

Personally, I don't like it. There are too much bricks now.

If I color them all, I produce "Flower Power 60s", if I only use Slackware colors, its too dark and grey.

But anyway, it's the community's wish, so I got it done ;)

damgar 05-28-2012 08:16 PM

I still like the first lego logo the most...

kabamaru 05-29-2012 05:14 AM

The first Lego logo is awesome.

damgar 05-29-2012 11:19 AM

I like gazl's too.

The Lego's rock! Do we need to worry about copyright if we used the Lego Blocks?

Nope, because I did not use LEGOs.

I used PEBE bricks, they look like LEGOs, but they were toys made in the GDR. Back in the old days when I was a kid, I played with them.

Here is a german wikipedia article about them: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pebe

So in case anyone is asking if I did a copyright infringement: Nope. ;D

Or maybe I used FORMO bricks? I can't remember.

jjthomas 05-31-2012 02:47 AM

Cool. I think the idea is awesome. -JJ

Vaguely retro design

w1k0 05-31-2012 12:17 PM

I prefer first Petar’s logo – with „builds” in negative mode (see: kingbeowulf’s link). It simply beats the other projects here.

As for popular here schmatzler’s LEGO/PEBE/FORMO thingy – it isn’t logo but a picture of the mini sculpture. Don’t choose that. If you don’t understand the idea of logo read about it. Even LEGO has the logo that isn’t made of blocks but of graphically treated text and colors.

Sweet. Looking good.

However, I think, as sycamorex stated earlier, its getting a bit complex. On the other hand, if Iever need commercial artwork done, I'll give you a holler!
