Don't know if you've solved the issue but besides hardware problems (clogged cooling, defunct fan) or heavy CPU(s) or GPU(s) intensive tasks I'd try powertop - an excellent tool for each component's power consumption analysis. It's available in stock Slackware packages.
There is a strong correlation between power-input and produced heat. It's not uncommon many peripherals are not put in power-saving mode when idle and are producing redundant heat. GPU is obviously one of the hottest candidates ;) |
Something you might want to try is to run GKrellM (it's included with Slackware). It's a display that shows your core(s) acttivity, processes, temperatures, disk activity, Ethernet/Wireless activity, memory, swap, email and uptime. If you laptop is capable, you can enable temperatures, fans and voltages.
To start it, simply execute gkrellm &, then right-click on the top of the displayed "stick" and configure it as you see fit. It's not an answer but it does provide a visual indication of what's going on that might be useful. Hope this helps some. |

piratesmack. Dpm, new one to me. Slack 14.1 comes with kernel 3.10.17. But as the issue seems solved with the amd drive will be lazy and wait for the next Slack release and then give it a go. ReaperX7 will explore laptop utils. Will mark this as solved. Thanks again to all who replied. BashTin |
