Slack on HP Proliant ML150G2
 

I've had this HP Proliant ML15G2 server sitting here for awhile. And so far i have been unable to install slack onto her. The problem arrises with the embedded sata controler. The scsi and sata enabled kernels do not pick it up. The only disk i have that picks up the hd is the diagnostic cd that came with it. Running a very cut and clean linux on it. I think it is debbie based. I wander. sorry. So, I pulled the module for the controler but slack can't load it because it was built for that specific kernel. If any one has any thoughts on how i might be able to get slack onto her i'd be very interesed in anything you have to say. Thanks in advance.

The only solution I have read would be to create your own slackware boot up disk. I have not done this as yet, but it only involves a few steps, one of which is compiling a kernel for your needs, and running a script which creates the disk for you. It is a little more involved than that of course, but it is not an impossible task - even for us mortals. :)

Ok, I took google for a spin and found nothing i thought usefull. I have contacted HP and requested information regarding the module "aar81xx.o", which is thier one from the diagnostics disk, and they have neatly replied stating that slackware is an untested operating system. This i can accept. Even though i don't appreciate it.

What they have re-directed me towards is their divers for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 and Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9. Niether of which i am interested in using. (don't HP own HPunix? why is that not supported?)

So, I have downloaded their Linux Enterprize 3 driver for the Embedded SATA raid controller and extracted it onto a floppy as directed. Now I have a few files with which to play.

My current request is does anyone have any ideas on how to transform thier "modules.cgz" + remaining files into a loadable kernel module? If any one has any thoughts, please.

Thank you for your reply. And yes, I have looked into making my own boot disk but unfortunately I cannot get the module for the storage controller (as far as i know). Thanks again for the reply. I'd like to think there should be a generic driver i could try but thats probably a wish at this stage. If you do however know of one, i'd be more than willing to give it a try
