Slack on a PowerPC

Hi-
I am in the processing of purchasing a new laptop. I want to buy a laptop without MS on it, but it doesn't look like I'm going to have very much sucess. I have done some googling and it looks like the only way you can get a laptop is if you get it with MS on it. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, also if they know of any manufacturers that will sell me a sweet laptop without MS, let me know.)
So...I have been pondering the idea of purchasing an Apple. I know that that limits the Linux distributions that I can use. I want to use Slackware. Does anyone know if Slackware works on Apple laptops? If not then this furthers my dilemma (since we all know how awesome Slackware is). I noticed that you can buy a new Apple laptop that has both OS X and Yellow Dog on it.
Anyways that's what I have to say..I hate MS.
Chris

There is/was a project called slackintosh, which is
an unofficial port of slackware. Not to degrade slackware, but
OS X is a great operating system. It has the great look and
feel with Aqua, and it is based on Freebsd, Unix. They even
give you a terminal. I have not made the switch official, but
When I got a powerbook I felt right as home.

Walmart is/was supposed to sell a linux based laptop on the cheap. I'm sure the hardware isn't cutting edge, but the price was really low.

These are what you were talking about, I think. Cheap, low-end, and comes with Linspire installed. Great starter machine, is my guess.

here here!

As you said, I wouldn't hold out much hope. When I purchased my laptop a year or so ago, there was nothing out there without the M$ tax.

There are a couple companies that sell linux loaded laptops. As well, I believe IBM still sells thinkpads without Windows loaded on them.

Thinkpads are awesome machines - that's what i would suggest.

i just called ibm and they told me i can't get a laptop without XP on it.
BTW- I don't care if linux is pre-installed, that's half the fun is installing it yourself.
