Slack knetworkmanager for WiFi?

So what do you guys use as a front-end for your network configuration? I love Slack but using the command line to control my wireless device is quite difficult to learn how to use. I can connect to my home wireless router but I dont even want to try to configure WPA2 that my University requires. I know there is Knetworkmanager, based on Gnome's networkmanger but it seems there are too many dependencies to easily integrate either of these with my current KDE Slackware configuration. Is there any other program out there to make this easier? Thanks guys

There can't be that many dependencies ... I mean you already have all the KDE libs and development packages installed, right ? Shouldn't be too hard. (I do it via command line, so I wouldn't know about anything else, sorry).

There are that many dependencies unfortunately...

Can you post your wpa_supplicant.conf for me to have a look at. I had it connecting to my home wireless network yesterday but now all I get is:

Code:
root@quasimodo:/home/mark/download/packages# wpa_supplicant -Dwext -ieth1 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
Trying to associate with 00:c0:02:d5:d5:d8 (SSID='Apt. WiFi' freq=0 MHz)
Trying to associate with 00:c0:02:d5:d5:d8 (SSID='Apt. WiFi' freq=0 MHz)
Trying to associate with 00:c0:02:d5:d5:d8 (SSID='Apt. WiFi' freq=0 MHz)
over and over again. My wireless LED is off so I dont know if wpa_supplicant is properly talking with my hardware. dmesg showed that my wireless was properly initialized and my iwconfig output is:

Code:
eth1      unassociated  ESSID:"Apt. WiFi"  Nickname:"quasimodo"
          Mode:Managed  Frequency=2.437 GHz  Access Point: Not-Associated
          Bit Rate:0 kb/s   Tx-Power=20 dBm   Sensitivity=8/0
          Retry limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:on
          Link Quality:0  Signal level:0  Noise level:0
          Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:0   Missed beacon:0
Finally my wpa_supplicant.conf is

Code:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
update_config=1
ap_scan=1

network={
	ssid="Apt. WiFi"
	scan_ssid=1
	psk="passcode"
	proto=WPA
	key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
	pairwise=TKIP
}
Thanks
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Sorry, my problem was solved with a simple reboot.

I have one other question though, is there a way to turn off the wireless once it has been started from the command line?

When it's up as root do:
Code:
ifconfig
You'll get some output for every interface that's online. Your wireless will probably be eth1 or wlan0. Which it is try (eth1 for example):
Code:
/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 eth1_down
I use kwifimanager to verify I can actually see the networks that are available and the "Wireless Network" page in the K control center to connect to networks.
