Slack installed, Xfce up, how to enable wireless intel 3965?

you have to configure the xorg.conf for the mouse wheel to work.there's already a thread discussing mouse wheel.

yeah, I fixed the mousewheel...and also realized, that how-to sticky is ancient!! that needs to be updated or taken down. lol How do I install a package manager for Xfce? Is it synaptic? If I can this done, I'll figure out the rest...lo. thanks !!

if you want a package manager like synaptic, try gslapt.

I've used gslapt in ZW....but,

bash-3.1# installpkg gslapt-0.5.1.tar.gz
Cannot install gslapt-0.5.1.tar.gz: package does not end in .tgz

how do I install this?

noticed that its a .tar.gz file?you have to uncompress it first to extract the tgz.

I did that, then ran ./configure....missing dependencies....if I can just make it to package manager I can get by...lol

it needs libslapt headers....have a command to install those? thanks

have you installed first the slapt-get?gslapt is just a gtk frontend of slapt-get.here's the site:

No...it's 3am here in florida...I'm failing...lol...I'll do that, thanks...I've been using dumbed down distro's so long I've forgotten many commands, etc...that's the reason I'm using Slack on this machine, to get back in shape...

It sounds like you need to add yourself to some groups.
These are the groups I'm in:

Code:

floppy
audio
video
cdrom
plugdev
power

you can check which groups you are in using a command like this:

cat /etc/group | grep <your username>

you can add yourself using (as root):

Code:

gpasswd -a <your username> <groupname you want to add yourself to>

then trust me you are not in the directory where the tgz file is if it goes to a prompt then there is no tgz file in that directory.

why would you want a buggy slapt-get when you already have a perfect slackpkg program that is part of the system.

I can still use slackpkg...I just want to see visually what is in the repos easily...I have no idea

That's what I needed.....thanks....what is the fstab entry to automount all ntfs and usb drives?

Also, i'm running startx at login...how can I login graphically automatically...thanks...it's been a long while !!
