slack: apm to shut down hard disks

anyone know how to use APM to shut down the hard disks when system has been idle for long periods of time?

It's not APM that you need, you need to look at the command hdparm. Try typing:

man hdparm

Probably something like:

hdparm -S 240 /dev/hda

will give you a 20-minute powerdown of the hard drives.

hey, thanks! I didn't know you could do stuff like that with just hdparm!
