Synth218 06-27-2003 03:09 PM

Oddly enough my favorite peer to peer networking client for Gnutella is Mutella, a command line program. It does also have a web interface available.

acid_kewpie 06-27-2003 03:54 PM

i mean gift **IS** a kazaa client... or at least, it supports the kazaa protocol among others.

I got it working using the wine-20030508 release, and KazaaLite 2.1.0.

You need to download some windows 98 dlls for it, I got them from http://www.dictacomm.com/Win_Dll/Win_dlls.htm. You need the following dlls (download them from that site if you don't have them) in your Wine "C:\windows\system" directory (depends on where you put it during the Wine install process, mine is in ~/c/windows/system):

MSCOMCTL.OCX
shdocvw.dll
comctl32.dll
msvcrt.dll
rasapi32.dll
shlwapi.dll
comdlg32.dll
urlmon.dll
commctrl.dll
ole32.dll
rpcrt4.dll
oleaut32.dll
shdoclc.dll
wininet.dll

Then you need to make the following changes in your ~/.wine/config file (be sure to copy the config file to config.old first in case you make a mistake, so you still have the original version):

In the [Version] section, make sure that the "Windows" = "win98" line is not commented out.
Make sure that the [DllOverrides] section is set up like this:

"oleaut32" = "native"
"ole32" = "native"
"commdlg" = "builtin, native"
"comdlg32" = "builtin, native"
"shell" = "builtin, native"
"shell32" = "builtin, native"
"shfolder" = "builtin, native"
"advapi32" = "builtin, native"
"mciavi.drv" = "native, builtin"
"mcianim.drv" = "native, builtin"
"commctrl" = "native"
"comctl32" = "builtin"
"comdlg32" = "native"
"msvcrt" = "native"
"shdoclc" = "native"
"shdocvw" = "native"
"shlwapi" = "native"
"urlmon" = "native"
"wininet" = "native"
The file you want to execute with Wine is kpp.exe, you'll find it in the "C:\Program Files\Kazaa Lite" directory in the Wine directory structure.

Kazaa has crashed a few times on me, but works well for the most part.

thanx locura i got it insalled and its working ok i guess its a lil shaky and it crashes pretty easy but hey its better than having nothing lol

Locura 06-27-2003 06:13 PM

Yeah. I've found that it seems to crash sometimes in certain parts of the Options menu, like for instance the download location, when you click on the "Browse" button. It's better to manually enter the location, I have my download location as "F:\kazaa", which puts the downloaded files in ~/kazaa instead of ~/c/Shared Folder or whatever that is.
