Alright, I gave it a shot yesterday, and it's all working now.
The problem was the position of the "append" line in the lilo.conf file. I just had to place it before the "boot" line, and run /sbin/lilo

Thanks a lot for the help and suggestions, everyone.
Happy you got it working, anyway reading your dmesg I think hda was being assigned the "ide-cd" driver before "ide-scsi".

From dmesg:
hda: attached ide-cdrom driver.
hda: ATAPI 24X DVD-ROM CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, UDMA(33)
So, the position really matters.

I don't think the position really matters, though. I hap my "append" line at the very end of my lilo.conf file. But that's just me, and Slack 9.0. I do know that you don't have to place "insmod ide-scsi" in your rc.local file like it says to in the help file. I did that and it caused my machine to sometimes lock up right before getty, the very last thing! I always got the message "insmod: a module name ide-scsi already exists", and then it froze. You don't need to put the line in 'cause it's in you rc.modules file. But that's just me, being happy that I know more about Linux than I thought I did. I'll stop bugging everyone now.
