Slack 8.1 ISO won't boot
I downloaded the latest version of slack iso from this sites "ftp.rtfm.no", and "ftp.cerias.purdue.edu", but when I try to boot from it, I received "No Boot Emulation". What does this mean? Anyone encountered this error before? Thanks

Been using Slack for years, never seen that error. Are you trying the current release (9 beta) or 8.1 ?
Did you make the ISO your self or dw the image (1 650MB file) ?
Have you tried the boot diskettes ?

With Slack 8.1 they starting using a new boot system. The new system no longers emulates a 1.44 FD. There have been many reports of compatibility issues. I haven't seen any myself as yet. The CD boots on everything I have tried.
However, I can recommend Smart Boot Manager. It has worked very well for me on systems that do not support booting CD's.
http://btmgr.sourceforge.net
It can be installed on a floppy disk and then booted, select the CD drive and the ISO will boot. They provide versions for both Linux and DOS.
Good Luck.

Thank you, you are all right. The new slack 8.1 is using a new boot system. I downloaded Smart Boot Mngr and it work fine, I was able to boot to my Slackware8.1 Installation CD, and I was able to install slackware. Thanks

ISO CD booting
I've had friends with the same problem and I have it as well.... I have the 8.1 ISO, with once CD I can boot it fine on my laptop with no problem, but it won't boot in my PC for some reason in either CD drive. Another CD a friend burned me works fine in both...not sure what the issue is

Oddly enough, my slack 8.1 CD will boot on the P2 I was experimenting with (but the CD drive won't read after boot, from the noises it makes, it's the CD!), but not on my laptop.
smart boot manager downloaded, which gets the laptop going from CD, even though it won't do it from BIOS. Lots of people having the same problems, so I'm sure it's not me doing something daft!
I can't imagine what the problem is, standard PC gear, so not different size sectors on CD. Maybe we should compile a list of what machines it boots on??

That doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. I've got a lot of people coming to #slackware on irc.undernet.org and asking about it from time to time, so it's not just a few isolated cases.

I'm trying to install on my laptop, but it keeps freezing whilst installing the libs. I've burned another cd in case the dying CD player in the experimental machine damaged the media. Will report back, but lots of others seem to have the same problems. Any guru/expert types have any ideas?? Some sort of database of CD drives/Mobos etc may be necessary.. I believe Patrick himself is a member now, wonder if he has anything to add????
