Slack 8.1's Konsole
I dont like the Konsole shell that says bash on it. Its not colorful like when you log outta your gui. I like that command line but i dont know how to change the Konsole to use that kinda commandlike (the colorful one) than the other (Old Unix looking one). Can ya tell me how you do it?

Perhaps someone else will understand what you are looking to do. But I am not sure. But I will attempt to guess.
You might be using a frame buffer console then you are starting the X system. If you wish to return to the console without X then try using the Ctrl-Alt-F6 key. If your runlevel is 3 then tty consoles F2 through F5 should be available I would think as well. If runlevel 4 then only tty console 6 is available. To return to the X system type Ctrl-Alt-F7 if runlevel 3 or Ctrl-Alt-F2 if runlevel 4.
Perhaps that is what you are looking for.

IN your home directory you should find a hidden file called:
.bashrc
If it is not there, then create one, and add the following lines to it:
eval `dircolors -b`
alias ls = 'ls --color'
You should then be able to get colors in Konsole.

To change the look of your command prompt you have to change the PS1 environment variable, and if you want to get colors when you run ls you can just set an alias like this:
alias ls='ls --color=auto'
to make that change permanent you better put in the .bashrc script in your home directory

Other than creating an application icon on the desktop there is a setting in Control Center for KDE. In the section called Personalization and it has a setting for a default console. I think it would be used when an icon is set to use console mode, then this setting allows you to specifiy with what console.

In console type:
echo $TERM
Eterm
(Thats mine) So just put TERM=Eterm in ~/.bashrc or something. Also as already suggested tweak KDE to get Eterm, or just run Enlightenment instead of KDE, i thinks it's nicer, can't wait for E 17 to come out, but then BlackBox with Rox beats them all!
Hope that helps
