Slack 15 Installer and Full Disk Encryption
This is a question and not a request... Does anyone know if Pat is planning to make Full disk encryption using luks+lvm a standard install option which can simply be chosen from the installer screen (Looking at you DEBIAN)?
I think it would be a nice to have for people wanting to do that but not being able to understand the (very well written) encryption guide provided with Slackware. Just a question... Cheers! :D |
While it's not currently on the TODO list, now that the installer makes an initrd it is something that could be possible in the future.

That was fast.. Thanks Pat. I don't need it personally but I think it would help a lot of people out and they'd use it if it were an option in that installer. That and supporting NVME with UEFI and elilo out of the box (which I think current already does) will also go a long way.

Is your TODO list public by any chance? I'm just too curious here, i keep checking current's change log like a little kid at Christmas trying to see what "presents" you drop :D |

Honestly, I'm not sure if the installer should be doing anything more for this than it already does. The installer doesn't partition your disks for you, why should it encrypt them?
|
That's actually very true xor_ebx_ebx... But there are a couple of options for partitioning like setting which is /home etc. It could be another option there after partitioning is completed manually.
If it goes against the philosophy of Slackware's normal set up though then I understand why it woulnd't be included |
for those wanting to install on an encrypted disk try

Having the steps for elilo set up would also be useful. Modern NVME drives and UEFI based systems have some slightly different steps.
