Slack 13.37 with a 3.2.9 kernel

so far so good, didnt detect my on board ath5k internal wireless nor the alfi AR9271 but the fw module was missing so i added it and voila that one works now to add the ath5k from wireless.org, the 3.2.9 kernel and the madwifi htc firmware my connections went from about 50-60% to now just under 100% signal strengths

I followed this walkthrough, after extensive reading on alienBob's sites (thanks alienBob)

Hi,

I'm on 13.37 64 bit and now run 3.2.9 64 bit which runs nice.

I used an unmodified config from current's Huge 3.2.7 kernel to compile 3.2.9.

When I get my radeon video issue resolved (next url)

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...64-bit-933586/

I'll then modify as needed a generic kernel config and thus go with a leaner 3.2.9 kernel.

Yes, thanks Alien Bob for your wiki kernel compile howto for 2.6 kernel which worked fine on 3.29 kernel.

Thanks.

Thumbs up

nice...i am going to do a tri-boot with a 13.37 kept up to date, then another load with kernel tweaks and winders so i can update my iphone wish i could do it in slack ... damn apple i am using the wireless.org ar9271.fw for my alfi wireless, both wireless now working, on-board and usb, i am still learning but so far so good...let me know if you find anything i should watch out for and i'll do the same

I also want to play around with kernel tweaking hence the second install of slack just for that

1. KVM and 2. Virtualbox <- those 2 virtual machines work real nicely in slack

I've XP and Win 7 that I run in KVM

if to update means go out on the internet with Win -- Well, I always set up KVM with its nat / masquerade / router feature

Which, in turn, easily has always put Win (that runs in my KVM) on the internet.

That's my way of having Win. It's not unlike having Win in jail - the VM gives me yet even more control over Win.

Not reboot -- merely load the kvm kernel module then launch the Win (2 O.S.'s run simultaneously in real time. U can use Slack *while* Ur device updates.

Last I checked, you can't sync an iPod with a kvm OS because the VM doesnt recognize the iPod plugged into the usb.

You must have the "pass through USB" turned on. KVM used to have it but you really had to dig to even find out that KVM has it. Nonetheless, help told how to turn it on (off by default).

The commercial (free for a private home use) edition of Virtual Box has the pass through USB. But AFAIK the open source edition of Virtual Box does not have this.

This is O.T. for the herein kernel 3.2.9 subject line. So I will not respond in this thread to any further V.M. stuff.

But if anyone wants to continue on with V.M. discussion then please start a new thread and post a link here in this thread to the new V.M. discussion.
