Slack 11, huge26.s, no modules :(

Ok, topic probably says it all but, when installing Slackware 11.0 (DVD .iso) with huge26.s as kernel i dont get any modules......

I first discovered that the directory /lib/modules/2.6.17.13 didnt exist so I created it, then I tried 'zcat /proc/config.gz | grep MODULES' and 'depmod -a' no differemce.

I read in the Slack 11.0 is out thread that some guy named mipia had installed modules from the dvd after reboot. How do you do that?.

Mount Slackware 11's second install disc and look under the extras/ directory. The kernel modules package should be somewhere in there. Install that and you will have all the modules you could ever need.

is it a .tgz?

hosler 10-05-2006 01:23 PM

Yep. You will have to be root and use the installpkg command to install it.

These has been said many times and it is listed in the Changelog and the documentation on the CDs/DVD. Look on your DVD for a folder named "extra". In that folder you will see another folder named "linux-2.6.17.13". In there you will see 4 slackware packages and 2 README's I think. You should only install the "kernel-modules*.tgz" and "kernel-source*.tgz" packages using "installpkg package.tgz" inside that directory. Do not install the "kernel-generic*" package because you might get an unbootable system if you have, for example your partitions formatted as reiserfs and you'll have to make an initrd image so you'd be better avoiding it. And as for the "kernel-headers*.tgz" inside that directory... you should read the "kernel.headers" file. Good luck.

Hey, that worked. Thx.

Does this happen to everybody or just to me and mipia.?

If this happens to everybody, someone should inform Pat.

Yes, this happens to everybody and Pat knows about it. I told you, read the documents inside the DVD or on slackware.com and even search here on the forum and you'll get alot of threads like this.
The thing is that huge26.s (2.6.17.13) kernel is supported but not the default kernel... you get the point now I think.
