Slack 11.0 & HP820Cse

I have an HP820Cse installed on my machine. Slack 11.0 recognizes it during boot. I have tried to use KDE to install this printer without success. The major problem as I see it, is that KDE sees the printer... but the HP820 is not one of the choices in the device list.
I have an FC4 distro on the same machine and it runs this printer perfectly. The FC4 CUPS is 1.1.23-15 and provides an explicit HP820 choice in KDE setup. I chose an entry HP830 to try. The KDE install goes through the motions of sending the test page but the printer doesn't budge...Would appreciate any help or suggestion.... especially from a successful HP820 user.

Thanks

Try another Deskjet 8xx driver. I had the same problem with a Canon printer but eventually found a driver that worked.

Failing that you might try hplip from http://linuxpackages.net.

Thanks for your quick response to my query... I have a difficult time understanding why CUPS is different on FC4 and Slack 11.0 I have gone down many paths to get this printer to work. I downloaded and installed 1.1.23-15 of CUPS (the same release as FC4 has) and it doe not give me an explicit choice of an 820Cse. The big difference is the Slack kernel is a 2.4 and the FC4 kernel is a 2.6. I haven't tried the 2.6 kernel in Slack 11 because I need a 2.4 kernel for support for my modem. I have also installed Turbo-Print and it doesn't work either.
I'll just live with booting FC4 to do my printing until I stumble over a fix for the HP820 or find someone who has an 820 running in Slack....

Cheers

BTW I tried HPLIP with the same bad results...

According to the information on www.linuxprinting.org and hplip.sourceforge.net the HP820C is not supported by the HP hplip driver. You will need the pnm2ppa driver to get it supported with CUPS. See http://linuxprinting.org/show_printe...P-DeskJet_820C . It's not to hard (had to do it myself for a 720C some time ago) but requires a little work done by you :)

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
titopoquito You're the man. I downloaded the driver , did a successful KDE install clicking the "OTHER" box in the selection panel, point it to the HP-DeskJet_820C-pnm2ppa.ppd ... ran the test page... printed perfectly -IN COLOR !!!!!. Thanks a lot..
