If you need to reinstall X, mount the appropriate CD and change into the x directory.
Then run:
Code:
installpkg -infobox *
That will install all packages contained in .tgz files.

Configuration of X should be done as root, just run xorgconfig

Code:
su -
When you su make sure you put in the dash so the paths are set up correctly.

to become root use 'su -' this will ensure all your paths are correct.

Sorry if this offends you, but did you mount the cd before getting in the dir? Did you mount it in the right place you where running ls?
If you did, you should burn another copy of the cd.
