SOLVED: Slack 10 Kernel 2.6.7 and CD-drives

Hi,

i installed Slack 10 and dropline Gnome. Curiously i didnīt have any CD drives after that. So i checked, if i have /dev/hdc .... no i didnīt. After reading a lot of the new udev device management i found the error. I have to insert module "ide-cd dev=/dev/hdc" in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules....but that alone does not fix my problem. I need to manually restart /etc/rc.d/rc.udev after booting the system to get the /dev/cdrom device. Anyone knows why and isnīt there are more elegant solution ?

All i want is on startup of system to be able to access my cdrom (CDRW drive in a laptop)...

bye,
Gonzolo2k

SOLVED !

Yeahh....finally i solved the problem...i just recompiled the kerne with ATAPI-Cdrom buil tinto kernel and not as module and evrything works out of the box...rellay curious that udev doesnīt handle it when it was build as a module.

Also i didnīt need to chang the udev rules like poste here http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ight=.6.7+udev in the last post nad didnīt need to add "hdc=ide-cd" to lilo.conf.

bye,
Gonzolo2k
