How do you "end session in KDE"?
How do you "logout & login as different user"?
Please post the commands and error messages you get.

Do you get any error message? The Xorg server keeps a log of it's last startup in /var/log/xorg.0.log. It may indicate that the problem is.

KDE can do (I've only done two at a time) at least two at once.
switch user > start new session
with one session, it's on alt-F7 (ctrl-alt-F7)
did U know the Linux thing of being at GUI desktop then do: ctrl-alt-F6 and then logon to a terminal get some app going in the terminal and then do alt-F7 it's now back to GUI desktop -- ctrl-alt-F6 is back to terminal
So, anyways, (if in existence), a *2nd* KDE (GUI desktop) session is on ctrl-alt-F8
end the 2nd KDE session and it auto reverts to the 1st KDE session that's on ctrl-alt-F7 (I've never tried it so see if it will do a 3rd KDE session say on ctrl-alt-F9)
Fun fun fun.
I don't know the answer to your other question (but maybe X is already started/running) perhaps you need just init KDE (startkde or whatever)
It's more fun for me to just do two KDE sessions simultaneously then when I'm done with the 2nd session, just end session on it and I'm now back in session # 1

If the x server has started but there is another problem, you might check the ~/.xsession-errors log.

Hi,
I want to recommend you running "xorgsetup" before starting to troubleshoot by reading the logs, the configuration the above command generates is quite basic, but in my experience you'll be able to log out or even "alt-ctrl-backspace" the server and then "startx" again without problems.
When that works just add whatever you need to the "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" (like refresh rates etc.) and if something gets broken then you'll have no choice but to go through the logs that you have on tty1 (when your X server is running) and the
/var/log/Xorg.0.log (Maybe Xorg.0.log has also what tty1 shows you).
Cheers.
