Not sure if you saw this post. The person is using Suse 10 which uses the 2.6 kernel. The information here is still really good, if you haven't seen it yet.
This post with suse is unfortunately not useful. X didn't want to start due to some errors in xorg.conf.
edit:
I was also changing Device from /dev/mouse to mouse0, mouse1. No changes or x didn't start.
