Slack 10.2 Ker 2.6.8.1 RTAI 3.1 Blank screen

Hi everyone there,
perhaps someone could give me some hints in compiling patched kernel 2.6.8.1 with RTAI 3.1.
After rebooting I keep getting a blank screen and neither humming from the HD nor blinking led.
I exactly followed the steps in the instruction document:

http://www.aao.gov.au/local/www/ks/d...AI_Install.pdf

Has anyone among you had the same problem?

Thanks for your help,
Pier

Did you try the RTAI Testsuite LiveCD, just in case ?

No I haven't but I am going to download it and give it a try. Thanks.
I tried instead the EMC live cd and it seems to work properly.

Is it the first time you compile and install a kernel ?

Maybe you forget some options, like video framebuffer
in doubt, try to set vga=normal in lilo.conf, run lilo and reboot

I set back vga to normal so I managed to read at least the messages on the screen.

[<c0103c3d>] kernel_thread_helper+0xd/0x13
code: bad EIP value
kernel panic: attempted to kill init!
Adeos: current domain=linux on CPU#0 [stack base=00000000]
linux[cpuid=0] : priority=100,status=0x0,pending_hi=0x0

During the compilation I didn't get any fishy messages.

The portion of lilo.conf concerning new kernel reads as follow:

# RTAI 2.6.8.1
image = /boot/vmlinux-2.6.8.1-adeos
root = /dev/hdb1
label = S10_RTAI31_2681
initrd = /boot/initrd.gz
read-only
# RTAI 2.6.8.1
