Slack 10.2 / Java 1.5 / CUPS printing
Hi. I've tried to get this combination working. Regular printing from OpenOffice and other KDE applications works fine. The printer is a Samsung SCX4100 and I'm using the USB port interface. I use one Java program that I would like to print from...MoneyDance. Now I had this working with CUPS on Slack 10.1 and Java 1.5. I'm sorry but I do not recall the CUPs version. So far I've tried ensuring that every lp* in /usr/bin and /usr/sbin maps to lp*-cups. This did the trick in 10.2 but not now.
I also noticed that lpc was not available to a normal user so I added /usr/sbin to my path and this had no effect. This was probably a BAD idea as the FSH indicates /usr/sbin should not be in the normal users path.
Basically, the job never appears in the print queue. From what I've read this may be the fact that lpc status command format is not correct for Java but I'm uncertain of this. I do get a listing when at the lpc prompt and I execute the status command.
Any ideas? Thanks!

It may be totally useless to you, but I used to have a similar problem with Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox --- print jobs just didn't get queued. Only accidentally I found out that it helps to specify the correct paper size for the printer. Setting page size to A4 made the Dino print.
Might be worth a try with Moneydance just as well.
If it doesn't work, I'd suggest that you try to print to a Postscript or PDF file and take a look at the result. Das KGhostview or KPDF or similar programs open the file without problems?

It appears MoneyDance can create a *.ps file but KGhostView shows zip. I see absolutely nothing but the page count does increase for a larger report vs. a smaller one as does the file size. I have 'Letter' selected for the page size. No joy yet, but thanks for the response.

bump...
I'm still striggling with this issue. Any other takers? Is there a "low-level" method to debug java printing?

I am also unable to print from Slackware 10.2/CUPS/ Java 1.5 whether with my own software or java programs like jedit.
This is weird because I am able to print from 1.4 and was able to print from 9.1/CUPS/1.5. I cannot remember if I tried it with 10.1. So, unless you really need 1.5 you could try installing a 1.4 jre and running your program from there.
I am suspicious that there is something not quite right with 10.2

I'm having the same problem with Debian, moneydance, Java 1.5, cups :-(
I haven't found a definitive answer.
I get the error message "No print service found"
