Slack 10 2.6.7 Synaptics Touchpad

This is driving me nutts. I've read and tried everything word for word. I want to be able to use the scroll feature on my laptops Synaptics touchpad. The tap click and all work. Just the scroll wont. If anyone has successfully gotten the scroll to work on slack running 2.6.7, please tell give me a *DETAILED* description of what you did. I've tried basic stuff like the ZAxis mapping that worked on the 2.4* kernel series, to the binary synaptics driver. No matter what method, please anyone tell me how you got this to work!?!?

I figured it out!!! Big time happy!!

Heres what I did

i wanted to use the 2.6.7 kernel in slackware and did so by following directions in /boot/
then I installed synaptics drivers (google for them) as it said in the INSTALL file
the trick was looking at the modules.
gsd# lsmod
produced a lot of modules, one specifically named "psmouse". I removed the module and modprobed it again...

gsd# rmmod psmouse
gsd# modprobe psmouse

and it came back with another module called "joydev" which apparently doesnt do anything, but now X boots and the scrool works!! I'm not 100% sure why, but if someone can explain it, please do

me too

worked for me too. compiled the synaptics driver, rmmod the psmouse, modprobe psmouse, and use the xorg.conf from 2.4 and it worked. i dunno, i fought with it plenty and it seems to have just needed to modprobe again.

Odd

Rebooted my laptop, and my synaptics touchpad didn't work with a startx. I had to rmmod psmouse and then modprobe psmouse to get the joydev module to load. How can i get this to load every boot to ensure that i don't have to manually rmmod and modprobe every time.

well...the lazy approach would be to just put the rmmod and modprobe commands in your rc.local

not the best solution, but would work.
