Slack 10.0 PHP4 -> PHP5 update
hi all,
I'm running Slackware 10 on a couple different boxes; I can't upgrade to 10.1 just yet but needed to upgrade PHP to PHP 5. Server is Apache, MySQL is running, and SSL is running. I know the 'right' way to do this is probably much more complex; but I tried a shortcut by downloading the PHP 5.0.3 package from the 10.1 "testing" directory and applied it using upgradepkg. Changed a single line in /etc/apache/mod_php.conf to point to php5 instead of 4, and phpinfo() _appears_ to show everything working correctly. So it seems to have worked, but before I try it on a production machine wanted to ask the group to see if smoke would soon start pouring out of the boxes for doing it this way. thanks in advance for feedback. |
Seemingly everything would be fine; you could run some test scripts to make sure of course.

Thanks for the feedback; it seemed to work fine on a proto machine after testing so I went ahead and applied it to the other box. all seems well after restarting Apache and testing.
