Apparently, Microsoft is not allowing 4.2 connections any more.

From today, users with Skype for Linux version 4.2 and older will not be able to sign in to Skype. The error messages user will see during sign in may include “Can’t Connect to Skype” or ”Can’t login on Skype”. To continue using Skype, please update to the latest version, says this

Drakeo,
thanks for your efforts!
However, you may wish to change the extension of the packages from "SBo" to something custom, although they were build with the scripts from SlackBuilds.org. Here's something from the FAQ.

Strange, but my Skype (on latest version) works fine just only with PulseAudio and deps, built from SBo... No daemon activated or another configurations. A big NOTHING. I'm prety sure that PulseAudio daemon do NOT run.
Maybe, Skype just look for PulseAudio into system?

Well this worked for me skype 4.3.0.37 recommends pulseaudio 5.0. But slackware 14.0 has pulse 2.0. So built pulseaudio from slackbuilds 14.1 repo and
it's dependencies. for pavucontrol used the 14.0 builds and it's dependencies. I have my cam and headphones and skype working with this build.
the install script will install x86_64 and the option to install the 32compat for slk64-14 multi-lib
down load the tar ball here skype-4.3.0.37-multi-lib-SLK64-14.0-build packages.

God, this is exactly why I didn't want to introduce this kludge into my system in the first place.
Luckily, Skype on my Android phone works just fine, so I'll just use that exclusively for all my Skype needs... ::sigh::

I know my work system has no skype or pulseaudio. Google voice that was moved into hangouts is a better application.
Skype has become a real let down to the mass.

http://slackbuilds.org/slackbuilds/14.1/network/skype/
installed!
Haven't tested the Almighty Call button or any of the "bonus" features, but at least now I don't have to run it in a VirtualBox machine.
It's a Good Day!
No sound events. Damn Virtual Device!

Thank you +rep. I will try this. Skype works for me, just not particularly well in some annoying ways. I don't have pulseaudio but as long as I use I/O from my sound card it starts right up and runs ok, with just the occasional crash. However for some crazy reason if I select my webcam mic (usb interface) it will not work though it recognizes it exists. If I change it to something else and "apply" and then change back to what it was, "USB Device" and re-apply, it then works ok. It would be great if it just worked so I will give Google Voice a try.

You might be referring to zerouno's package:
http://www.z01.eu/repo-slack/slackwa.../4.1.0.20/src/
http://www.slacky.eu/asche64/pkgs/in...er=17&pkg=2111
Unfortunately it is not updated for 4.3, so it won't help now. I myself was wondering if one could modify it to include PulseAudio.

For those of use who run Slackware 32-bit (no multilib), assuming that sqg is a symlink to or an alias of /usr/doc/sbopkg-0.37.0/contrib/sqg:
Code:
sqg -p pulsauadio (choose Queuefile)
sbopkg -k -i pulseaudio (idem)
sqg -p pavucontrol
sbopkg -k -i pavucontrol
Not that much of a hassle, IMO.

Funny thing about pulseaudio I ran pulseaudio -k that does a restart. but then you have to re-startx wow that is wierd. re-startx log out log back to see any changes
that I did with phonon in kde multimedia. and if my digital headset is in it likes to make it default strange this is in slackware64-14.0 multi-lib.
this is all part of the new crap that the folks that like to use systemd I bet. I found running kmix in xfce4 helped also.
you know I just do not understand why people want to complicate stuff. so everytime I edit the /etc/pulse/default.pa just restarting pulseaudio with pulseaudio -k
is not enough you have to re-startx log out of kde and back . look what that systemd team is doing. LOL
