Skype 4.2 for Linux - Retired
"Skype can't connect" message using Skype 4.2?
Apparently, Microsoft is not allowing 4.2 connections any more.

Yes, we're all getting that. You need to get the new version but this requires pulseaudio. I am not going to add pulseaudio, so I am moving to google hangouts. I will only use skype on android or a windows vm...

I have yet to read all 4 pages so far to see if there's a 4.3 for Slackware 14.0 x86_64 multilib.
God, I hope someone (including me?) can get it on my current install.

I tried that a dozen times.
Apparently, it's being discussed also at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-a-4175508618/
Some folks reporting that alsa isn't working on 4.3 and I have alsa packages installed.
I'm waiting on Drakeo to wrap up a build for 14.0 64/Multi-lib
Skype 4.2.0.11
Thanks.

Hi,
Further to my last post, I just read the fatuous statement concerning retiring Skype 4.2 for linux. Interestingly, it states that if you are already signed on with skype 4.2, you will not be required to update until you log off skype.
It just so happens that I am ALWAYS logged in to skype ... from my laptop at home, from my desktop at work and (today) from my workstation at home. i don't think there has been a time when I have not been logged on for the past year, so that may be why I could log in from my workstation this morning .... skype not very smart??
cheers

I too stayed logged in for weeks at a time.
Recently, I got a screen "flash" and Skype disco'd and I couldn't re-login.
4.3 installed. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ml#post5216636

A user on the Skype forums seems to have found a solution for the old version.
Quote:
It's very simple:
Login with the new version end mark the option "login when skype starts".
Close the new version and startup the old one.
Now you will be able to use the olde one without first logging in.
