SiS DRI

Hello,

Can anyone give me some step-by-step instructions on enabled direct rendering on a SiS300(630) videocard? Thanks.

you need to recompile your kernel

compile in agpart if that card is AGP (if you do, also compile in the driver for your motherboard (note: not the video card, but the chipset the AGP bus is on ... (read your motherboards docs))

then compile in DRI, and select your video card for there

then all that should be needed is a reconfig of X (unless its already properly setup)

edit: oops, those kernel compile in options are under Device Drivers->Graphics ... or was it some other suboption? .. (keep an eye out if its not there)

probably, im not being too helpful but im in a rush right now so you might get it working if
you follow the instructions in these addresses ...

http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/Building
http://www.winischhofer.net/sisdri.shtml

you should visit first the second link, as its specific for the sis 300 and if it works you wont need to build the dri :P

yeah i folled that and i get 100+fps already. but i've heard that some can reach 300 fps and some even 500+ fps using the same model as my video card.

hi again ... well, first you need to see if everything is working ok by doing a 'xdriinfo' and 'glxinfo' , from which you should get something like:

direct rendering: Yes [on 'glxinfo']
Screen 0: <your card> [on 'xdriinfo']

then you might check /var/log/X.org.log for any errors or warnings ... i have a ati rage pro turbo 8mb 2x and i get around 100fps, although most of the users with a similar card report around 250+ fps ... so, for a sis300 32mb 4x [am i right?], 100+ fps is a bit slow .. but, as i told you, you can see that these things change for one system to another without any logical behind it, there are a lot of cases like this ... kind of unstable stuff :P and you can still go to the mailing list in dri.sf.net to try some help ... bye
