Your SiS671 device should be handled by the sis driver supplied in the xf86-video-sis-0.10.3 package.
When you say that you "backed up sis drivers and xorg.conf from my debian install.", does this mean that you copied these files to your Slackware installation?
Please post the output in /var/log/Xorg.0.log when you try to start X without a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. If you already have a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, just rename it to/etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak.
