show the current keyboard layout

Hello!
I would like to know how I can get the current keyboard layout via the command line. That is, I need a command whose output is "bg","us","gb" and the like.

Regards,
Martin

No, I meant something else. I have two keyboard layouts on my machine- "bg" and "us" and I switch to each one of them with the command "setxkbmap us" or "setxkbmap bg". I need a command that will tell me what the current active layout active is.
