Should I upgrade from 8.0 to 9.1 or patch? for better sound support ETC.
I've been using linux for about 5 years now and keep coming back to Slackware.
I get new distros and install them. Never tried a patch or kernel upgrade. I want to set up a multi-track recording system like the one I use in crash prone windoze. Ardour looks good but requires 2.4 kernel and ALSA. Should I go to 9.1 or spiff up my existing 8.0 Slackware? Any thoughts on this would be great. Thanks, in advance, James |
Definately upgrade. 9.1 is rock solid and supports ALSA and the 2.4 kernel. Also it's 2.6 kernel ready. :) Also, 8.0 uses an older package naming scheme so 8.0 won't really work with today's package. I suggest backing up your important stuff, going for a full install of 9.1, and working from there. Good luck! :)
