Should gnome be dropped

With the recent discussion on Patrick dropping gnome from slackware, I think a poll is in order.

well... for me it's simple. i use kde and icewm; i never liked gnome. if it takes 1/3 of the available time to keep it in, then loose it. but maybe dropline should be there for the gnome-users ( if it's less work to keep in the distro...)

and i read something about the " windows look and feel ", well, there is no such thing: the source is still Apple.

Dropline got slashdotted yesterday. Aparantly it exceeded their bandwidth allowances.

I use slack w/ KDE, I honestly can't even understand how it's possible to like Gnome.

I use xfce as my environment but use many kde tools (konqueror, kwrite, kdevelop, kwikdisk, juk, konsole, kaudiocreator). I don't use any gnome apps but do use some gtk apps. I have tried gnome and found that i prefer most of the programs that are similar in gnome and kde.

I can certainly see Patrick's point in not wanting gnome if it uses up that much of his time. I am glad gnome was there in order for me to try it out and I tried dropline too. So as long as dropline is available people will still have an option to try gnome.

It is a funny thing that people either seem to love or hate gnome, and have a difficult time understanding the other point of view. I do appreciate some aspects of some of the gnome programs, but have found the environment to have lost features that I used over the years.

I still maintain that gnome is a great desktop for a business environment where the user is not the system administrator and needs things really simple. I guess that is where gnome is going. But as someone who uses Linux for its power, I prefer the kde stuff running in xfce.
