Question .shn files

I attempted to install the shorten codec, but was unsuccessful.
I used the codecs found on this site.
http://etree.org/shnutils/shorten/so...n-3.5.1.tar.gz
I followed the directions, but it did not work.
I downloaded the package to my desktop, then unzipped it.
From the consol I ran the commands requested in the help file.
But no luck. Has anyone been successful with this?
If so how did you do it?

./configure
make
make check
make install

Worked for me. Slackware 9.1 (-current).

i did do that, but it didn't work.
does it need to be in the xmms directory when ran?
I assumed it would have self installed the codec into the player.

shorten(1) is a command-line tool to decompress .shn files. You'll need to use it to convert the files into something xmms can play. It is *not* a codec, per se.

I see what I did now.
I thought that was the newest version of the shorten codec not an incoder.
I will download the 2.* version later.
