sg module - is this a bug?

Am I the only one that burns optical disks?
Without this module neither Nero nor K3B detect my burner.
Is there some new way of using burners under Linux so this module is no longer loading automatically?
If not then why would this functionality be removed?

I know that version 2 of k3b no longer uses the sg module so it is on the way out, the problem is with software that has not yet moved past it.

I expect that the modern approach is for udev to load this module as needed when it detects your device, so I guess it could be considered as either a bug or omission in the udev rule processing.

I build 'sg' into my custom kernels along with the other scsi drivers.

I'm running Slackware 14 and K3B (which is version 2) still wants this module.

I'm running Slackware 14 and this past weekend burned a DVD with K3B. I'm using KDE 4.10.1 --- I don't know whether that makes a difference.

What seems to be the problem? I run several stock Slackware, Slackware64 and Slackware64 multilib systems. The stock K3B burns CDR and DVDR just fine. /lib/modules/3.2.29/kernel/drivers/scsi/sg.ko exists in the stock Slackware 14 kernel and and whether or not K3B uses it does not effect my burning optical disks - never bothered to check what modules are loaded. BTW, my CD and DVD burners are both IDE66, not sata.

It's probably the ide66 that does not need the sg module but sata does. Just guessing.
