Several Problems

I have several problems with Slackware. The first one is about Swaret, I installed swaret but I don't understand the part of the mirrors. Which ones do I choose??
My second problem is that I can't mount any CD-R nor CD-RW or read my NTFS partition. I really like Slackware but I think it requires a little more work from my part. I would really appreciate your help.
Before I forget, my last question is how to add my windows font that are in a CD-RW so they are usable in Slackware. How do I copy all the files in the directory to the font folder, do I need cabextract. (They are copied directly from the Control Panel > Fonts folder)

"I have several problems with Slackware. The first one is about Swaret,"

This is not a problem with Slackware. Swaret is a program written by someone else.
You can use the mirrors that are listed. You can edit the list if there are some nonlisted mirrors that are near you that you would like to use. You can remove those you do not want to use. It is usually best to use mirrors near you.

"My second problem is that I can't mount any CD-R nor CD-RW or read my NTFS partition."

If you search for this question on this board it has been asked and answered dozens of times. Or you can read man mount or man fstab. If you have your CD-RW using scsi emulation be sure to remember that the device is now a scsi device not ide at least for mounting purposes.

"I really like Slackware but I think it requires a little more work from my part."

That is the great thing about Slackware. A little more work, a little more reading and research equals alot more learning.

What mirror should I use for Swaret??? Where do I get the mirrors?? Can someone explain to me how to set up swaret??

Have you looked at /etc/swaret.conf? It lists the mirrors in it. This file was installed when you installed swaret.

swaret is an essentual for lazy bums.

To setup swaret simply install the tgz from the download page of the swaret website. Either use pkgtool or installpkg. your choice.

To add additional mirrors for swaret to search for packages simply add the mirrors listed here to your /etc/swaret.conf file under the headding
Code:

# -----------------------------------------------------------
# Define Repository URL's with Slackware Linux Packages.

underneath the already existing mirrors listed. (good idea to comment the addtional mirrors for future refrences incase you need to remove them in the future.

Then you should be set. Enjoy. :)

As Ringo Starr said, "You got to pay your dues if you want to sing the blues, and you know it don't come easy." Slack is sort of like that - you definitely need to be prepared to do a lot of reading and research, but once you are reasonably familiar with Slackware any other distro is a walk in the park. Heck, tonight I'm taking a look at installing Fedora on my backup machine. All heck broke loose during boot up, but due to what I learned from Slack, I was able to manually edit a few files (fstab and hosts) and that solved the problem. If it weren't for Slack, I'd probably be doing a re-install right now.

Stick with Slack -- it's worth it -- J.W.
