Setup for Canon MF3010 ?

Okay, I've tried every solution I can find to get this printer working in Slackware, and it's just not happening.

I have the Canon common drivers and PPD file installed, etc., etc. CUPS sees the printer, and jobs sent to the printer show as completed, but nothing prints.

I installed Mint as a dual boot, and the printer works fine there, so I studied that config and finally just copied those config files to the slackware installation, but still no go.

Can someone who has this printer or a similar Canon, working in Slackware, walk me through their setup?

Setup is Slack -Current, CUPS is 1.5.4

TIA

Are you using Slackware64-current (ie 64bit version)?
If so, this link http://jonathan.bergknoff.com/journa...u-canon-mf3010 suggests that you need additional 32bit libraries that can be obtained from AlienBOB's multilib repository. http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/pe...tilib/current/

if your trying wireless that is.

Here's an older HOWTO I've written for a Canon printer. It's a bit of a PITA to setup on distributions that aren't Debian or Red Hat.

You see anything relevant in the cups logs? /var/log/cups/access_log, error_log, page_log.

Took a bit to install my pixma mp620 a few years ago, now it's a lot easier.

That guide looks like just what I need, but there are two lib's I can't find.

Yes, I'm using Slack64 -current.

I've blacklist lpusb, as was suggested in several threads I found.

/var/log/cups/error_log does have the following:

E [16/Feb/2016:06:53:13 -0600] [cups-deviced] PID 2818 (gutenprint52+usb) stopped with status 1!
W [16/Feb/2016:06:53:51 -0600] CreateProfile failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown:The name org.freedesktop.ColorManager was not provided by any .service files

It's funny really...My printing needs are really pretty simple, so setting up printing was about the last thing I needed to get going. However, this is eating my breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Sure, I can just boot into Mint to print whatever I need, but it really irks me to do that. I felt sure I could get this working.

I think that HOWTO is written in French. At any rate, I can't read it.

I do appreciate the link though.

I am not sure how important those libraries are for everyday printing. One appears to be a decompression library and the other seems more related to Windows generated files.
FWIW - I did find this on the Debian wiki. https://wiki.debian.org/PrinterDriver/Canon/UFR-II
I would suggest probing the required libraries using ldd as was done under step 3 of the wiki article. Perhaps something else is necessary. I seem to recall that some Epson drivers need a symlink created to be made to work.

For my Canon MF4141 it as I remember sequence was like this:

1) drivers from official canon page.
2) rpm2tgz 64 bit driver with flag to force all file permissions to root
3) install made tgz files

If multilib is installed everything works. Maybe this can help.

What about upgrading to the newer cups versions which is now in current?

~/pre$ ls /var/log/packages/cups*
/var/log/packages/cups-2.1.3-x86_64-1 /var/log/packages/cups-filters-1.8.1-x86_64-1

Sometimes I find precious information on italian or hungarian websites, even though I speak these two languages very poorly. The Unix bits are universal.

Well, much as I hated to, I bit the bullet and picked up a HP Laserjet pro. Installed hplip, and all is good.

Bitter taste of defeat & all that....I wanted to take the Canon printer out back and crush it, but the wife nixed that

Thanks much to everyone for the help and advice on this one.
