setting up language input options

Hi guys, I am new to slackware, and iam a bit stuck at the moment...I've been trying to find out how to set up the system so that i can write both in English and in Japanese (because i need them both for my work.) I am using KDE, and the slackware 10.2. Is it possible to this at all? (I am very much hoping that the answer is a big YES...) could someone please tell me the how to?

many thanks in advance

I envy all of you multiple language folks! Forty years ago I spoke French as well as English, but the French went by the wayside as the years passed by.

I don't know if this will help you, but open the KDE Control Center. Then open the Regional & Accessibility option. Select the Enable keyboard layouts option and explore if those options help you. You might want to look at the Kxkb options in the same section. Also take a look at the KDE docs in the KDE Help Center or here online: Configuring KDE.

thank you kite!
i installed the scim/skim and the program is up - but i don't really know how to use it. i mean. it should be obvious, but i must be really stupid or something. i am trying to use utf-8 for jp and i followed dthe set up/configuration instruction. but i can't choose or use JP somehow. i know i am getting there but i need some pointers - thanks!!!

thanks Woodsman - i tried the keyboard options first, but i couldn't do anything useful with that option - i mean the layout is in JP, perhaps, but it didn't work for me.
