I would think that proftpd is installed if you have Slack 8.1 or 9 and did a full install. Look in the /etc/inetd.conf file and see if the line tha starts with "ftp" is remarked. If it is remarked then remove the hash mark and save the file. SIGHUP inetd or restart the system. If it is enabled then it is ready to go if installed. Just ftp to the box on the IP address. For testing from a console try; "ftp localhost" and see if you are presnted a ftp login prompt. If you login, then you use the "bye" command to terminate. I think "help" displays all the available commands. Check the man page for more info on ftp. "man ftp" or "man proftpd"
