Unhappy setting up a LAMP server in Slackware 10.0

Hi everyone
I just upgraded to Slackware 10.0, and really enjoyed it!!
Thing is, I've been trying to set up a LAMP server, I followed the instructions from shilo at

http://shilo.is-a-geek.com/slack/intro0.html

also tried the instructions from

http://hr.uoregon.edu/davidrl/lamp.html

so far I haven had any luck, when I try to start apache I get:

# apachectl start
/usr/sbin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started

I did remove all packages, then recompiled and reconfigured everything
did I do anything wrong?
can anyone help?

Typically with LAMPP, if you installed it to the recommended location of /opt ,
would be started with the following command:
/opt/lampp/lampp start

You can change the actual startup files to reflect this location.
Think of LAMPP as a standalone program that implements many servers in one package.
Therefore all of those servers are started with the lampp start command.
