setting up a custom nameserver

I would like to permanently set my nameserver to something I want.

Currently, my network is set by DHCP, and this controls my nameserver.

What I want is to pernanently set my own nameserver so that DHCP is unable to set it.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to resolving this issue.

I know about resolv.conf but that only sets the nameserver for one session

Are you using dhcpcd to contact the DHCP server in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1? If so, it can take -R as an option to tell it not to overwrite /etc/resolv.conf - that way the contents of /etc/resolv.conf are kept between re-boots.

And the "official" way to do it is to use the options in rc.inet1.conf

Code:
DHCP_KEEPRESOLV[0]="yes"
