I'm trying to set up my HP officejet 8600 on slack 14.1, connected by network. When I run hp-setup -i, I can select the net option to look for the printer on the network, and it says: No device selected/specified or that supports this functionality.

I've tried turning my firewall off. I've tried as root and as my normal user.

I have this working on my salix 14.0 netbook, and it worked on this computer on centos 6.5. I noticed that hplip on slackware 14.1 is more recent than hplip on salix 14.0 - not sure if that would cause the issue?

Anyone have any help on this?

OK, I tried setting it up with cups,and it worked. I wish I knew why hp-setup failed, but oh well.

I've also had this quirk with hp-setup. The solution for me was just to enter the ip address of the device (I think its the manual option in hp-setup).
