.serverauth.xxx...?

I was wondering if it was necessary to hold on to these files?? They seem to be adding up under my home directory. Is there really any need for them, a way to interpret them or extract any important info from them, etc..etc..???

No, at least the old ones can be deleted. From what I've read some time ago it comes from a change in the startx script that creates these files instead writing the info to .Xauthority. I think especially if you kill the X server in a non standard way (like CTRL+ALT+DEL) then these files stay and won't get deleted.

When I searched for that I read about changes to startx that prevent this problem, but I haven't bookmared it, sorry.

Yeah, I think in my case at least, it has to do with my using (CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE), I just didn't know if this was important or not...Thanx ;)
