sendmail problem in 10.2

I am struggling to figure out why nobody else has posted on this one but...

My lovely new 10.2 is running sendmail. Using an MUA such as mutt/pine/elm I have mail gaily skipping between users in and beyond my LAN and my domains.

Mail is hjappily popping off to Moz MUAs and MUA web sites but I have failed to persuade such MUAs to be able to send.

Now I would like to think that this is just a case of fiddling with the confs in /etc/mail and I think that I have them sufficiently fiddled with but even if I offer to RELAY an IP on my LAN I cannot persuade a Moz MUA on that IP to send.

Perhaps I have missed something really obvious here and fingers crossed some kind soul will politely explain stuff to me but ... until then I am reading shilo's most excellent guide and this is where I really run into difficulty.

My 10.2 /usr/share/sendmail has no cf directory, no .mc files. There are no .mc files anywhere find / -name '*.mc' returns zilch. Patrick's README gives no hints as to the non existence of any .mc

For a newbie to sendmail I rather feel this is the deep end without any water wings.

You need to install sendmail-cf package, it contains all the sendmail mc files

I like this post by SiegeX. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...light=sendmail

You may not need SMTP AUTH, but it a great guide. Really easy to follow. You may also find that smart host and smtp auth are needed, depending on your ISP.

Blimey!

that was a learning exercise and three quarters
and it ain't over yet
smart host seems to have provided the functionality i was looking for
but i now realise that even more is possible

SiegeX's piece is v.v.helpful - altho not entirely up to speed with 10.2

thanks guys
