sendmail...pine...nail...problem

i followed Shilo's tutorial for setting up a pop3 server and it works for the most part, i can send and receive emails to a number of diffrent accounts, i tested gmail, yahoo, and aol. my problem is that i can only send mail in pine, and even then i have to input my isp username and password before it sends my mail along. and in nail when i send an email it does not forward it through my isp's smpt server, it just sends it out and naturally it bounces back cause big email servers dont like residential pop3 servers. how can i fix it so nail uses my isps smpt and how can i make pine not require me to enter my isp username and pass? i am guessing that its like that for security but there has to be a secure and convient solution. thanks in advance.

which file?
that is a fairly old how-to...and afaik you can now use the stock
cyrus-sasl and sendmail packages. just follow the instructions for
configuring them.
