Segmentation fault after installing Mozilla 1.7.5
 

Well the old fox has a problem. I upgraded from Mozilla 1.7.3 to Mozilla 1.7.5 using the package from Slackware.org and now I have a Segmentation fault every time I try to run Mozilla. Firefox isn't affected nor is Konq. I really don't want to go back to 1.7.3 but I might have to. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm running Slackware 10 (not current) with the 2.6.9 Kernel (custom compiled for my PIII).

The error message is as follows...
user@localhost:~$ mozilla
/usr/lib/mozilla-1.7.5/run-mozilla.sh: line 451: 4113 Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"}

I've attempted to update GTK+ to current but dropped back to the original version of GTK+ that came back with Slackware 10. I also tried to use mozilla as root but still no joy.

I've done quite a bit of Googling but haven't found anything that has fixed my problem yet.

Have you tried it as root?

try 'strace mozilla' in a terminal and see where it is seg. faulting at.

I had tried it as root but it didn't work. I also ran an strace and couldn't find anything out of the ordinary so I got fed up searching for the problem and downloaded the binary from mozilla.org. Installed it and my problem went away, no seg fault when starting Mozilla 1.7.5

Here is what I did:

compiled mozilla from scratch

Remember to follow their build directions carefully because it definitely will fail if you don't follow their compile and build instructions.

You can run into problems using packages from -current on 10 as they are compiled with differnet libs etc. This becomes more of an issue the further -current gets from the last stable release.

Thanks shashir, Franklin. I normally would download the source or binaries directly from mozilla.org but thought I'd try out the new 1.7.5 Mozilla in package from Slackware's site. I should have listened to my initial gut feeling of "downloading this Mozilla in package form is probably a bad idea". Oh well, live and learn -- right? :D

I only have one other problems now, both the fonts in Mozilla and my java plugin are now broken. I guess I'll live with ugly Mozilla fonts and no java for a while, as I don't have the energy to research the problems at the moment.
