seeking www.linuxquestions.org/slackware FAQ
Hello,
I am guessing there may be an exclusive www.linuxquestions.org/slackware FAQ that give users answers for questions they may run into. I have done a quick search without any positive results. I have seen the FAQ on the front page regarding registration, and the FAQ button regarding usage of the board. I have seen a lot of the same questions being asked and answered for example lost passwords, sound issues, kernel compiling... yet nothing centralized that will assist a user from being able something to chew on before asking something that has been asked before. If someone could please light the way, it would be mostly appreciated. Thank you! |
use the search button and enter something to search for, if you don't find it start a new thread

exclusive?? why would you assume that?

Because there are some standard things that seem to "come up" after a slack install. That, and it's the best distro ever :D
I don't think an FAQ is necessary though, because like David said the search feature works fine for these usual things, such as normally having to configure X for the first time, chmodding your soundcard (or creating a group and adding your user(s) to it), and so on. Things you and I take for granted because we've ran more than 1 distro, more than once. Cool |
thanks :)
Thanks all :)
Through my trials and tribulations of playing with slackware, I have already begun to document all the little speed bumps and tricks to make things fat dumb and happy (including me)... after I have gone through this a few dozen times I will be sure to post and share what I have learned :) |
Hello Slackfan
I'm new with slack myself and have downloaded all kinds of online books. The one I'm using the most and getting the most out of is called: Rute User's Tutorial and Exposition I've only been using Linux since Jan. but with the help of this book I've finally got my sound working for root and user accounts. I believe that I found that book on SourceForge.net or org, might even have been com. But it has certainly help me, you might look it up and give it a glance, I use it alot and it is nice being able to use it while I'm running linux. And Slack does Rule!! :Pengy: |

I did a quick search on google and found it on sourceforge as you suggested: http://rute.sourceforge.net/rute.html which exposed the link to download the pdf http://www.icon.co.za/~psheer/rute.pdf.bz2 the pdf has the date of August 14, 2001 but the web version seems a little more current from the first glance... I will be sure to go over this material and add it to my linux library! Thank you very much for the suggestion :) |
