Smile Scripts for synchronise and upgrade local installations of Slackware current

Hello,

I have written some scripts for downloading, synchronizing and upgrading local installations of Slackware current. There is also some help to install the Slackware alone or dual boot with MS Windows especially on recent machines.

I use shell scripts with menu drivent by dialog or not.
There is also some bat files for MS Windows users.

The scripts are localised on english and french.

A central repository is maintained for your local machines. It can be put on a DVD or a USB key. The Slackware current is the official one plus some others packages from Alien Bob, Ponce, Slonly or SBo with the sofware I use most and which are on my computers at home.

The scripts are here : https://github.com/BrunoLafleur/pbslacks
My site is here and reference the former : https://dir.logiciel.cc

I have done multiple upgrade of the install I have done in july 2019 on some of my machines at home or at work with no problems (laptops and destops).

Hello,

Glad you have similar ideas. If you have remarks I will answer.
I had thought about adding a third boot to the generation of the USB key with the Alien Bob Live ISO.
But maybe there are some other ideas.

Wink Some adds

I have added some packages to the pbslacks list of packages :

-vokoscreen version NG 3.0.3 based on the old SBo package with some modifications I have done and put in pbslacks.
-and a dependency of the former : gst-plugins-bad from the Ponce repository.

-telegram-bin from the Conraid repository.

They were tested and work with the packages I add from the Slackware current.

Wink Bumblebee

In pbslacks I also manage the BumblebeeSlackbuilds which I now maintain here :
https://github.com/BrunoLafleur/Bumblebee-SlackBuilds

It is in sync with the original from which it is forked.

I have added the Vulkan support for some time and keep it in sync with the NVIDIA drivers.

It works on 2 of my laptops which have dual graphical cards.

You can see the README in the project.

Some tips for the pbslacks tool

In the pbslacks tools the master script is pbsetup which can launch pbupgrade.
This is described in the README of the project.

The pbupgrade script upgrade the Slackware current system and the add-ons packages after you eventually launch the aspire steps which is done by pbaspire.

The pbupgrade script uses the screen tool. If you break your X-Window session for example and your machine is still alive you can reconnect to the screen session with screen -r. This is a tool which is known to be useful for upgrading a system.

Wink pbslacks cleaning

I have made some updates of the aspire parts of the pbslacks project.
I have also updated the README file with some precisions.

Wink News for pbslacks

I have done some little reworking in the github pbslacks project.

I have also add in the pbcompilepost script (which can be call by pbsetup -> upgrade -> recreate), the rerun of ffmeg.SlackBuild to add X264, X265 and OpenAL support because I have those in my add-ons packages.

Wink Openshot

In my pbslacks tool I have the Openshot 1.4 package (it is not the last versions but my daughter and I used it for a lot of videos of horses and music).

Openshot 1.4 uses python2 so I keep an eyes on the evolution of python2 in Slackware current.

I have done some packages for adding recently removed python2 modules in order to make Openshot 1.4 working.

I saw than the last removed python2 modules where merged in on big package which can help to keep some python2 stuf.

Wink Openshot 2.5

In pbslacks I have added Openshot 2.5 with the SBo package. I just renamed it openshot_qt for cohabitation with the Openshot 1.4 I spoke above.

So I have tested the two versions on the same Slackware current.

I also recompile Audacity for Python 3.8 because some Alien Bob packages are with the Python 3.7 version (they are from 2019).

Wink Ardour

I have added Ardour in pbslacks. It uses the Alien Bob versions of the packages needed.

Ardour can record, edit and mix audio tracks.

If you have Audacity you can compare with it.

Wink Some rewrites

I have modified the update part of the pbslacks tools.
You can now choose to recompile only some sets of packages.
You can also choose to recompile the Alien Bob Chrome package in order to have the libffmeg.so with h264 support for use in Opera.
So I can now choose between Firefox, Chrome and Opera.

Wink Added some tools for Openshot

In my tool pbslacks, I have added Inkscape and Blender with the help of the SBo packages.

They are useful for Openshot as helpers for titles or some effects.

Wink Last upgrade of the current Slackware

With pbslacks, I have done a new upgrade of the latest current Slackware with the new PAM modules.

It works with my computers. I had no problems with PAM. It seems very well integrated.

Wink Audacity

In pbslacks I have upgraded and tested Audacity with some updates from the Alien Bob Audacity and dependencies.

So I have compiled the 2.4.1 version of Audacity which uses cmake (configure also works). I have modified the Slackbuild script to use the cmake generation of the makefiles.
