Screwed up with by using Kernel 2.6.15.1?
 

This is odd, i compiled *just* like i do every time i update, and now i cannot use pkgtool, or swaret, the replies from swaret now tell me:
"swaret 1.6.2-1

You're NOT using Slackware Linux 8.1 or Higher or Current!"

and when i try to uninstall a package with pkgtool the second i hit 'remove' to select some, it simply flat out tells me the package removal complete readout... as well as i had to make sshd start from a custom line in rc.local cause after rebooting into 2.6.15.1 it didn't generate keys, nor did it start sshd, it simply told me "sshd re-exec requires execution with an absolute path" so in short, can anyone tell me options i should uncompile, or options i should compile to make it work like slackware, and less like a brick? Or just plain tell me where i went wrong?:scratch:

new edit: also, iptraf tells me it can't tag the process, but continues to work, then tells me it can't attach to eth0, yet still allows me to continue, what the heck did I do to cause this much trouble, and would I be better off using the 2.6 packages that came with slack 10.2 overall?

There seems to be some problems with Slackware's udev package and the new 2.6.15 kernels. Also they require a newer module-init-tools and sysvinit packages due to hotplug being obsoleted. You might want to look at THIS site for help.

Personally, I'm waiting a while before I upgrade till most of this stuff gets worked out and a REALLY good "howto on Slackware" gets posted somewhere.

Yeah, sometimes the "latest-N-greatest" ain't the best thing to have. Like I always say, "Some days it's diamonds, other days it's coal." :)

One thing about the 2.6 kernel that comes with Slackware, you're pretty much assured that it will work.
